Final Images

Self portraiture final image

This is my final edited self portraiture image, I took a lot of inspiration from Vivian Maier especially her image taken in the book shop. I feel the fish eye effect on the traffic mirror gives a large element of space to the image, not really seen in self portraits. When I originally studied the self portrait I envisioned an image where the soul focus was on the person taking the photo, this my final image enhances my surroundings, taking the focus of the image away from me and putting in on to the space around me. This could suggest that I feel lonely, isolated and because of the fish eye really emphasising the space, it emphasises these connotations of loneliness and isolation even more.

Stranges final image

My final image for the strangers brief I have edited my photo of the homeless man to have a black and white filter on it. When studying Maier’s work I noticed how most of her street photo’s are taking in black and white, although Maier didn’t have a choice but to use a black and white camera, I feel that taking to colour out of an image takes away the happiness and the warmth from an image. When considering how the edit the image I felt it wrong to enhance the colour as this is not a happy or warm image, I wanted it to feel cold and depressing and feel that taking to colour away from the original image does this. My models facial expression adds to the depressed look I am going for and this combined with the editing adds to the depressing mood.

Friends / Family final image

For my final friend portrait image I used my friend Sam Storey and adopted a low key lighting setup when shooting this image. I used only a single soft box when lighting this image, this creates harsh shadows on the left side of my models face, I quite like this accentuates the lines of my models face. I got my model to stand up straight with a serious facial expression as after experimenting with different pose and facial expressions the pose most reflected the lighting and the overall mood to the image.
